1996 Jeep Cherokee

The 1996 Jeep Cherokee is a midsize utility vehicle, solid performer, and one
of the best buys in its class. It offers an engine 2.5-liter with 4-cylinder inline-6
that generates 190 of horsepower at 46000 rpm and a torque of 150 pound-feet at
3250 rpm. This Cherokee has 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions,
and driver's air bag as safety equipment. The two cylinders both make the run
smoother and quieter. The inline-6 produces a lower power, making the vehicle
more responsive even when accelerating from a light or towing a trailer up a steep
grade. It also offers an automatic transmission with a brake pedal interlock designed
to reduce accident, because it requires the driver to apply the brake when moving
the gear selector out of park.
It is also offering an upgraded electrical system via a heavy-duty alternator
and battery. The engine has a stiffer block, new aluminum pistons, and a new powertrain
module control. The Sport Edition can change directions quickly without excessive
body roll, and works pretty well on hard edge off bumps, potholes and broken pavement.
This Cherokee has a very high noise level compared to its competitors.
